FILM
COMPOSER GRAEME REVELL SCORES
HIS WAY THROUGH THE FOG Varese
Sarabande releases Score CD (HOLLYWOOD,
CA) Award-winning film composer Graeme Revell scores The Fog, a remake
of 1980’s John Carpenter classic, released October 14 by Revolution
Studios. A cocktail of suspense, sci-fi and horror, The Fog is
directed by Robert Wainwright and stars Tom Welling, Maggie Grace and
Selma Blair. Graeme Revell
sets an ominous, moody and brutal tone for The Fog.
A faceless, malevolent force, the fog becomes a character all its
own, and although its danger isn’t always on the screen, Revell’s
haunting score demonstrates an ever-present fear.
The soundtrack hit stores November 1 on Varese Sarabande. Recently,
Graeme Revell was honored with BMI’s prestigious Richard Kirk Award
for Outstanding Career Achievement, joining the ranks of legendary
composers John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and Danny Elfman who previously
have received the honor. Other
Revell-scored films slated for release this year include the Christian
Bale starrer “Harsh Times,” premiering at the Toronto Film Festival,
and director Danny Cannon’s “Goal!”
Activision’s much anticipated video game “Call of Duty 2”
will also feature a Revell score. Most recently Revell completed double-scoring duties with
Robert Rodriguez for “Sin City” and “Shark Boy and Lava Girl in
3D.” Graeme
Revell pioneered the industrial sound.
His signature style, responsible for the riveting atmosphere of
some of Hollywood’s most tense thrillers and dramatic features, blends
ambient sounds with traditional and ethnic instrumentation into his
scores. The New Zealand
born Graeme Revell began is scoring career while working in a mental
institution in Australia. The
unusual sounds of the patients combined with the atmospheric sounds
became the foundation for his Industrial Rock band. The band was a huge success in Australia and the director
Philip Noyce hired the musician to score Dead Calm, which won him the
Australian Film Award for Best Score and launched his highly successful
scoring career. His credits
now include the suspense thrillers “Out of Time” and “The
Negotiator,” dark dramas “The Crow,” “Blow” and “The
Insider,” and exhilarating actioners like “Collateral Damage,”
“Chronicles of Riddick” and “Pitch Black.” Revell has
furthermore proven an aptitude at scoring big budget blockbusters, with
“Spawn,” “Daredevil,” and “Tomb Raider” on his resume and
has worked in the swashbuckling style of Korngold or Williams on “From
Dusk Till Dawn.” When
the composer isn’t hard at work in Hollywood, he frequently assists in
ecological adventures aboard his yacht, made famous by its appearance in
the first James Bond film, “Dr. No.” Interviews available, contact Costa Communications
