JON BRION SCORES LATEST GRAMMY NODS FOR

KANYE WEST’S “LATE REGISTRATION”

(Hollywood, CA) NARAS announced today that multi-talented composer/songwriter/ producer/musician Jon Brion is nominated for two Grammys: Record of the Year for producing Kanye West’s “Gold Digger;” and Album of the Year for producing West’s “Late Registration.” Brion has been nominated twice previously: in the category of Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television, or Other Visual Media for Michel Gondry’s “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind;” and for his musical contributions for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia.”

Brion’s productions for Kanye West and Fiona Apple were also nominated in performance categories. Kanye West is nominated for Rap Solo Performance for “Gold Digger,” Rap Song for “Diamonds from Sierra Leone,” and Rap Album for “Late Registration.” Fiona Apple is nominated for Pop Vocal Album for the Jon Brion-co-produced CD, “Extraordinary Machine.” Both West and Apple have enjoyed major media coverage for their recently released albums and both have consistently praised Brion’s artistry.

Brion is currently in the studio recording his second solo album, a follow up to his acclaimed debut from 2001, “Meaningless.” His live one-man improvisational act at West Hollywood’s hot-spot Largo continues to sell out every Friday night as it has for eight years. Both Kanye West and Fiona Apple are among the artists who often join him onstage.

In addition to being a sought-after songwriter and producer, Jon Brion is also an accomplished film composer. Grammy nominated for “Magnolia” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” his resume includes “Punch Drunk Love” and “I Heart Huckabees.” Music critics have called Brion’s work “simply well written and passionate,” and have said that his “eclectic touch undeniably shapes the sound of many progressive alternative musicians.
