AARON ZIGMAN’S SCORE ALBUM TO

“THE NOTEBOOK” HITS #12 ON BILLBOARD CHARTS

(Hollywood, CA)  The soundtrack to New Line Cinema’s romantic drama “The Notebook,” scored by film composer/producer/arranger Aaron Zigman, recently reached #12 on Billboard’s Top Independent Album chart.  The album for “The Notebook,” released on New Line Records, has been on the charts for only six weeks.  The film itself currently is #8 at the box office, two slots ahead of the popular “Shrek 2.”

“The Notebook” is Zigman’s second project with director Nick Cassavettes.  He previously worked with the director on the critically acclaimed drama “John Q,” starring Denzel Washington.

In “The Notebook,” a man reads from a faded notebook to the woman he regularly visits at a nursing home.  His words bring to life the story of a young couple separated by class differences and World War II.  Based on the acclaimed best seller by Nicholas Sparks, “The Notebook” stars Academy Award Nominees James Garner, Gena Rowlands and Joan Allen opposite Ryan Gosling (“Murder by Numbers”), Rachel McAdams (“Mean Girls”) and James Marsden (“X-Men”).

Aaron Zigman is rapidly establishing a glowing reputation for his exquisite, lyrical and highly evocative scores.  In “The Notebook,” Zigman blends his classical training with 1940s jazz to create a romantic and reminiscent feel to the film.  Zigman used several jazz greats in the score, including Dan Higgins, Gary Grant, Bill Reichenbach, Warren Luening, Dean Parks, Jimmie Wood, Charlie Loper and Robert Zimmitti.  In addition to classical orchestrations, Aaron recorded with sound equipment from the 1940s to recreate the era’s jazz sound.

Among Zigman’s concert works is a 35-minute tone poem tribute to Yitzhak Rabin, which was performed by the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony.  The USC Symphony orchestra recently performed Zigman’s suite for wind ensemble, “Impressions.”

Zigman has worked extensively as a music producer, arranger and writer for top recording artists including Christina Aguilera, Seal, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Phil Collins, Tina Turner, Chicago, and Carly Simon.

Zigman’s work has been featured on film soundtracks for “Mulan,” “What’s Love Got To Do With It?,” “The Birdcage,” “License to Kill” and "Pocohantas.”

Zigman is now working on “The Wendell Baker Story”: the directorial debut of Andrew and Luke Wilson, and starring Luke and Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell, Eva Mendes and Eddie Griffin.  His next project will be contributing music to New Line Cinema’s romantic drama “Heart of Summer,” directed by Sean McNamara and starring Hillary Duff.
