WINNING FILM/TV COMPOSER STEVE BRAMSON SCORES
150TH EPISODE OF JAG MILESTONE
FOLLOWS ON HEELS OF HIS JAG EMMY NOMINATION (Hollywood, CA) Film & TV composer Steve Bramson scores his 150th episode of JAG following his Emmy nomination for his 149th episode. The CBS drama, starring David James Elliott and Catherine Bell, is beginning its eighth season this fall and is still among the highest-rated dramas on network television. JAG is an adventure drama about an elite legal wing of officers trained as lawyers who investigate, prosecute and defend those accused of crimes in the military, including murder, treason and terrorism. The weekly series is one of only a handful that incorporates an orchestra into each episode. Steve Bramson scores as well as conducts the music for each episode. “It’s a traditional score, and I’m using an orchestra; this is how I learned,” explains the composer. JAG features an emphasis on brass and trumpets and relies more on melody than most shows do. Bramson is asked weekly to incorporate a variety of theme styles, including those set to comedic, adventure, dramatic or emotional moments. The show’s producer Donald P. Bellisario requests that the television score play like an old Hollywood movie - a feat that Bramson has proficiency with since he scores for both television and film. Steve Bramson has been active in film & TV scoring for more than a decade. Bramson’s movie scores have included the Miramax release “The Crude Oasis,” “Casualties” and the popular animated film “Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island.” Bramson won an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition for Steven Spielberg’s “Tiny Toon Adventures.” In addition, as an orchestrator he has contributed his talents to the music for “Apollo 13,” “James and the Giant Peach,” “Starship Troopers” and “Lost in Space.” Bramson - the composer - has gained a reputation for creativity and versatility, scoring everything from cartoons (“Fish Police”) to murder mysteries (“Diagnosis Murder”), and TV-movies (“Love Can Be Murder”) to theme-park attractions (“Space Mountain” at Disneyland Paris). His classical compositions and arrangements, including chamber pieces and full orchestral works, have been performed in several cities including New York and London. Bramson is currently a consultant to ASCAP’s
composer workshop and a speaker at UCLA as well as local
high-school programs. SCORING
