COMPOSER DON DAVIS RETURNS TO THE MATRIX TO SCORE FRANCHISE

2 Sequels, 9 Animated Prequel Shorts, 1st Videogame

For Combined 7 Hours Of Original Score

Matrix Reloaded Double Disc Soundtrack

released May 6th on Maverick Records

“‘The Matrix’ is the source material that everyone else is ripping off… the music, the camerawork, the sunglasses – can still, four years later, sell anything from cars to sneakers.” – Devin Gordon, Newsweek [Cover Story-The Year of The Matrix]: Dec. 30, 2002

WHO: Don Davis (The Matrix, Bound, Jurassic Park III) is scoring the Matrix franchise – including:

  • Nine animé short-film prequels collectively titled “The Animatrix”

  • Two theatrical sequels to the 1999 sci-fi phenomenon - The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions

  • Davis’ score for The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded are being incorporated into the first videogame of the franchise, “Enter the Matrix”

Don Davis’ original versatile score musically accentuated the storyline.  The composer incorporated long quiet stretches that are eerie, as well as dissonance and quick powerful staccatos to complement the futuristic atmosphere

WHAT: THE MATRIX FRANCHISE

·         “The Animatrix”:  Nine animé film shorts [individually created in unique animation styles – traditional, CGI, animé/manga, and various mixtures] from seven world-renowned animé directors - forming an anthology-style series from producer Joel Silver

  • The episodes are actually prequels that fit like puzzle pieces into The Matrix mythology that have varying storylines - with the general theme of the war between humanity and the artificial intelligence that led to the future seen in the original film

·         The Sequels to the $171 million grossing film - The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions:  Shot simultaneously in Australia over a 270-day stretch from 2001 to 2002, combined, the two sequels production budget exceeded $300 million

  • Don Davis will score both films, including [the climax of Reloaded] a lengthy freeway chase that, like the original “Matrix” in 1999, will redefine action filmmaking

·         “Enter the Matrix” videogame:  Its story fleshes out off-screen moments only alluded to in “Reloaded,” drawing upon two of the supporting characters from the movie – Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Ghost (Anthony Wong) – to serve as the stars of the game

  • The game manages to re-create much of the rush you get watching the movie, with everything from running on walls and wire-fu fighting

WHERE/WHEN:

·         Four of the nine animés will be available to download for free over the Internet, beginning on January 19th with the release of “The 2nd Renaissance: Part One,” and concluding by May 15, 2003 – the due date of The Matrix Reloaded

  • Another episode, “Final Flight of the Osiris” - a CGI short scored with a full orchestra, will have a March 21 theatrical release accompanying the thriller supernatural “Dreamcatcher”

  • On June 3, the entire nine-part Animatrix series will be released on DVD

·         The Matrix Reloaded will be released on May 15, 2003.  The third film in the trilogy, titled The Matrix Revolutions, arrives in theaters six months later, in early November

·         Enter the Matrix will hit stores the same day that “Reloaded” opens in theaters –

May 15, 2003
